A Grand Event
Astrum Solar (rebranded to Direct Energy Solar on April 1, 2015) officially opened an office in Middletown, Connecticut last week! On August 26, the office celebrated its Grand Opening with a ribbon cutting ceremony by Mayor Daniel T. Drew.
A local company provided catering services, and the Grand Opening was celebrated by Astrum Solar customers, Astrum Solar employees, community residents, and several public figures in addition to Mayor Daniel T. Drew:
- Tom Murano, Middletown Economic Director
- Paul Doyle, Connecticut State Senator
- Bryan Garcia, President and CEO of Connecticut Green Bank
- Michael Trahan, Executive Director of Solar Connecticut
One attendee—now a proud Astrum Solar customer—had his site survey that very morning of the Grand Opening. He was so excited about switching to solar with Astrum Solar that he wanted to meet everyone at the Middletown office and celebrate.
Thank you to everyone who attended and for making it a successful evening!
We Are No Newcomer to Connecticut
Even though the Middletown office is brand new, Astrum Solar is no newcomer to the Connecticut solar market. Astrum Solar has helped many Connecticut residents switch to solar and has been a selected installer in several successful Solarize CT initiatives supported by Energize Connecticut. These towns include Fairfield, Bridgeport, Glastonbury, Newtown, Cheshire, and Stamford.
In addition to the above Solarize programs that have unfortunately expired, Astrum Solar is Solarize Torrington’s sole source installer. The program is currently in Tier 3 and there are significant solar discounts which increase as more people sign up. If you are Torrington resident, there’s still time to switch to solar! You must sign your contract by September 16 to qualify for the group discount. Don’t miss out on these exclusive savings provided by the Solarize program.
Now is a Great Time to Go Solar in Connecticut
Government and utility incentive programs can drive down the cost of your solar installation by more than 50%. If you choose to pay as you go for your solar power, most of the incentives transfer to your system owner, who passes the savings on to you in the form of a low to no upfront cost. These incentives are not around forever, so request your free site survey now to start saving.
Residential Energy Efficient Property Credit
The federal rebate is 30% off your installation price. Simply fill out a form as part of your federal tax return, and you’ll get your money as a tax rebate. If you do not expect to owe taxes this year, you can roll over your credit to the following year since the credit is available through 2016.
Residential Solar Investment Program
The Residential Solar Investment Program provides rebates for homeowners and businesses in Connecticut who switch to solar. The Clean Energy Finance and Investment Authority (CEFIA) residential PV solar grants are available to customers of Connecticut Light & Power and United Illuminating who have a home energy audit first and use approved installers. Astrum Solar is a CEFIA incentive program approved installer.
- If you purchase your solar system: The current Connecticut grant is $1.25 per watt for the first 5 kW AC and $.75 per watt for the next 5 kW AC, which may be adjusted based on expected performance.
- If you lease your solar system: The Performance-Based Incentive (PBI) is based on actual performance over the course of 6 years, and is used to reduce the homeowner’s monthly cost. The current incentive up to 10 kW is $0.18/kWh produced for six years.
